Vanilla Creme

Vanilla Creme

Rich thick Chocolate Dream, delicious Strawberry Supreme or incredible Vanilla Cream all with 35 grams of protein and only 5 or 6 grams of carbohydrates. Whether you’re dieting or looking for a healthy snack, Extreme Smoothie is so good it’s hard to believe it’s so good for you.

So I commonly will check out the protein aisle at my grocery store, just to see what they have.  Hey, by doing so, I found out that not only did they start stocking one of my favorite RTD protein drinks on the market (ISS Oh Yeah! Milkshakes) and found this little can on clearance along with a sister can not on clearance.

Now, I have to say, when you see this:

It doesn’t really inspire a whole lotta hope for taste.  But I’m adventurous and so I picked it up anyway.

I have to say, upon opening it that it *popped* like it is a carbonated beverage.  I swear, it fizzed and gurgled for a minute.  I wondered if it was bad for a few minutes.

It passed a sniff test — not too bad.

I gotta say, it’s not “extreme” or really “smoothie-like” in my opinion.  Extreme to me conveys something more than this bland vanilla-ish flavor.  And smoothie to me means something that is thick and has something other than a milk-thin texture.

But on first taste, it’s not bad.  It does leave the protein after-taste in my mouth, which while isn’t horrible, isn’t pleasant either.  And I don’t know what exactly is in it to do it, but 2/3rds through, and my pouch is saying “no more” and there’s some icky feelings going on down there.  Kinda a burning sensation on my pouch — and this says something to me because I normally have a pretty tolerant pouch.

If you can get past the lackluster taste, the protein aftertaste, and the potential pouch burning issues.. well, the stats look pretty decent (which is why I picked it up in the first place):

Ingredients: Skim milk, water, calcium caseinate, natural and artificial flavors, cellulose gel, sucralose, dipotassium phosphate, cellulose gum, carrageenan, and FD&C red #3

So, would I buy these again?  Nope — not even at the way discounted price of $1.02.  There’s another one in my fridge — a different flavor, and I’m hopeful it’s better.  We’ll see.  But vanilla gets a thumbs down from me.

Available all over, including Amazon, for about $3.50-4.00 a can.

Hah, I am giggling at the name “Praline Scream” and thinking about how it might make my insides scream.

I’d try these for a buck if I ever saw them. Heck, I’d try any RTD for a buck if it had decent stats. :)

I had to check, because I did not remember, but the other one I got is “Chocolate Dream”..

Too bad! Plus, I paid full price for it, whatever full price was. I don’t even remember right now.
