Mix1 – dark-berry

Something different..

It seems our days have become increasingly packed with events as we juggle family, work, and fitness leaving less time to focus on eating right throughout the day.

There are many nutritional products claiming to deliver amazing benefits but in reality fall short on balanced nutrition. With this in mind, we started mix1 with the following mission: to create the highest quality all-natural products that promote health, wellness and performance through truly functional nutrition.

mix1 products deliver all-natural balanced nutrition with multiple benefits in a convenient way. We use the right balance of ingredients, at efficacious levels, to provide the maximum benefit to your body.

Someone was talking about how great this stuff was, so I looked up the company.  I decided to drop them a line about their product and they sent me a few samples to try.  In no way did they pay me for the review (other than giving me some yummy stuff!) and they did not ask for anything in return.  Well, other than my honest opinion.  I suppose that counts?  And if you’ve been reading me for awhile — honesty is something that I come by fairly easily.

Just coming in from a bike ride with the kids, I decide to pull one of these out of the fridge.  Now, this is a bit different than the other mix1 products I’ve reviewed — this is not as much of a protein drink as much as it’s an antioxident / fiber drink.  In fact, it’s got a whole lot less sugar (9 grams versus the 29 grams in the other drinks) and a whole lot less protein (9 grams versus 15 grams) than the others.  So this is not, strictly speaking, a protein supplement.  But given how my stoma doesn’t do veggies and fruits?  It’s not a bad choice for me.  Your mileage may vary, so take this as it is written.

First impression is that it’s MUCH MUCH thinner.  The other drinks were not thick thick THICK.  But this is watery by comparison.  And it tastes that way to me.  I honestly feel it tastes very watery.  In fact, the first thing I did was look to the bottom to see if any of it had separated and needed to be really shaken up to “fix” it.  It’s THAT watery to me.  And you know me — I can get most anything down (and have.. including barium twice this month..)  It’s also noticeably not as sweet.. In fact it feels a bit “dry” compared to the others.  This is not as easy to get down at all.  The others were very easy to get down compared to this.

This needs a Splenda.  Yes, yes it does.

Okay, better.  It still leaves a bit of a dry taste on my lips and tongue.. and inexplicably in the back of my throat.  But the Splenda (remember, Splenda-whore here) gives it a bit more umph to get it down a bit easier.

But it has GREAT stats…

So is this a good thing for you post op?

Maybe.  Especially if you’re in need of some good quality fiber, some high-quality (whey isolate FTW!) protein at the same time, and don’t dump on fruit sugars.  Yes, it has REAL sugar in it (the horror!), but it’s fruit-based.  Remember that.  It’s got GOOD stuff in it for those of us that have problems getting that sort of stuff in our diets.

But this flavor?  Not doing it for me.  It’s just not turning my crank.  I’ve loved the others by this company, though — so I can’t expect to love them all.

Mix1 is available in a number of places — online through Amazon, and I’ve even seen it at grocery stores like Kroger.  At Amazon, a 12-pack sells for $25.00, making them just over $2 each.  Really cheap for a RTD drink.
