High Protein Meal Replacement – 27 Grams Protein!

The Bariatric Advantage High Protein Meal Replacement comes in an economic 35-serving Bag with a measured scoop to make accurate dispensing easy. Each 150 to 160 calorie serving provides a full 27 grams of protein, with only 7 grams of carbohydrate (of which 5 grams are fiber, and only 1 gram is sugar) and a half gram of fat. They are also lactose-free to best meet the needs of weight loss surgery patients. One hundred percent of the protein is from a high quality whey protein isolate (There is no soy protein, only a small amount of soy lecithin to mask aftertaste). Fortified with between 15 and 50 percent of the DV for 23 essential vitamins and minerals, this product makes a perfect pre-operative weight loss shake or post-operative meal replacement for bariatric surgery patients. Our meal replacement also comes in a great variety of flavors (chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, banana) as well and an unflavored shake that can be mixed with soup, yogurt, fruit or home-purchased flavorings.

I posted before that I went to a WLS Meet and Greet in Savannah last weekend.  I won one of the door prizes, which happened to be a basket of goodies from Bariatric Advantage.  It included a few of their meal replacement shakes, as well as a bag of their new raspberry calcium bites.  In fact, they don’t even know I have their product, so they cannot know that I’m doing a review.  Got it, good.  Kthanxbai.  Oh, wait.  Review first.

In any case, this is the unflavored flavor.  Or not flavor.  Whatever.  I decided that I did not want to try this with water, despite the fact that the directions said it could be mixed with water.  I DID try putting my fingers to the powder before mixing it and it tastes sweet despite not really seeing a whole lot of sweetner in it (sucralose is the last ingredient).  I decided to add it to my Mix1 orange twist fiber drink that isn’t heavily protein-y to boost the protein content to my shake.  So I poured it into my BlenderBall cup, added the protein powder, and gave it a good shake.

Mix 1 + BA Unflavored..

This mixed makes a nice thick shake that is VERY fulfilling.  It’s sweeter than the original Mix1 drink (which stands to reason), tastes JUST like an orange dreamcicle, and now has much better stats with the added protein and vitamins from the Meal Replacement powder:

Nutrient Amount % DV
Calories 150-160
Protein 27 g 54%
Carbohydrate 8 g 3%
Fiber 5 g 20%
Sugars 0.5 g
Fat 1.5-2 g 3%
Cholesterol <300 mg
Vitamin A 50%
Vitamin D 50%
Vitamin E 50%
Vitamin K 50%
Vitamin C 50%
B1 50%
B2 50%
B6 50%
B12 50%
Niacin 50%
Biotin 50%
Pantothenic Acid 50%
Folic Acid 50%
Calcium 15%
Copper 50%
Iodine 50%
Iron 35%
Magnesium 24%
Phosphorus 15%
Zinc 50%
Potassium <3500 mg
Sodium 320 mg 13%
Selenium 50%
Manganese 50%
Molybdenum 50%

Definitely a good option to mix with other things — I like the stats and it tastes wonderful.. at least in this Mix1 shake.  Other options I would try would be in SF puddings, low-carb yogurt, maybe water with some of the SF Monin chocolate sauce?  I wouldn’t think to mix it in soup, though, since it does have a sweet taste to it.

Available from Bariatric Advantage:  Bagged (35 servings for $49.95), Single Serving Pouches for $2.49 each, or Ready-to-Shake bottles for $2.29 each.
