Well.  I’ve been putting this review off for a very long time.  After reviewing the vanilla version, I just couldn’t make myself do the chocolate.  It sat in my box-o-samples that I purchase to try for some time.. but I dug it out and decided I’d be brave today.  I’m not sure why today was THE day, but, well, it was.  Maybe it’s because I have 3 canisters of Click in the house and a canister of Vanilla Syntha-6 that I can use as doctoring agents if I need to..

An initial sniff test makes me optimistic.. just like hot cocoa.  I swear.  So maybe?

I’m not sure what I think yet.

So it’s mixed.  And I’ve put it off long enough.   And really, I wish I had put it off longer.

The directions clearly state to mix in 8oz of liquid.  I use water in all of my taste tests because I want to know what something will taste like without the additional flavor and creaminess of milk (and well, I don’t like to add the extra calories of milk unless there is caffeine in there…)  And while it said 8 oz?  It’s watery as all hell – I feel I should have used a whole lot less.  It’s not very flavored, but what little I get is not good at all.  Imagine just taking some water, a very little bit of sweetener, and some cocoa — then mix it together.  That’s what I think this tastes like.  It’s VERY thin.  It’s got that dry protein-y taste to it.  And I can’t even imagine getting the entire 8oz down given that I can easily doctor this (and you’re reading someone who has had two types of barium in as many months.. one of which was HORRID).  I mean, if I absolutely had no other choice, I could.  Don’t get me wrong.  But given that I’m sitting at home with a cabinet full of stuff?  Why should I?

So the question becomes with what?  I have Monin Sugar Free dark chocolate syrup that is pretty darn tasty and two flavors of Click (although I think the Vanilla Click would be too light to conquer this..)  I think I’ll try a scoop of Mocha Click first …

And instantly, the single scoop (I didn’t even need a full SERVING) of Click has made this palatable.  Amazingly strong, Click is.  Those 60 extra calories are totally worth it to me (plus, now?  caffeine.  I love you.)

In of itself, the EnergyFirst has a beautiful profile.  So if you can get it down, it’s worth it.  They give you their amino acid profile (which many don’t — this is generally a good sign that it’s a better protein product already) and it’s pure whey isolate.  It’s a natural protein with no added colors, flavors, or sweeteners (they used stevia) which is a good thing.. but apparently I NEED those things because this tasted like blah to me.

Now, I ordered these samples from the EnergyFirst website (see below for details).  The packages that my samples came in?  Had interesting stats.. so I called the company and was told that the printer screwed up:

19 MILLIGRAMS of protein?

However, I was told that the info on the website WAS correct (obviously..):

Nutritional Stats

So moral of the story.. wait.  I’m supposed to have one?

Oh.  I have one.  Samples are good.  Even if you pay for them.  I don’t get many free samples.  I’m not as special as Melting Mama is so I end up buying most of my samples.  I’m just like all of you guys.  I see something.  I wonder if it’s good.  I don’t want to buy a huge 2lb tub of something that I may absolutely detest that will cost half of my week’s food budget.  But I also understand wanting to branch out, try new things.  That’s why I find samples.  And yeah, I pay for them.  That’s what I did with EnergyFirst.  I also read reviews (like you are doing now o_O).. but my taste buds aren’t yours and what I may hate you may love and vice versa (and btw?  feel free to put your own taste thoughts in my comments.  I can handle it.  Just, you know, don’t bash.  This may be my blog, but it’s for you guys.)

Available at EnergyFirst — 2lb tub (about 36 servings) for $39.99;  Sample pack $1.49  (Get samples first.  Just sayin’.)

Best review ever. I was considering this last week. It looked somewhat promising. I am a Chike fan and your comment ” So if you can get it down, it’s worth it” after you doctored it at least gives me hope if I am ever stuck in a situation I might force this upon myself. At your own expense, thanks for the review.
