Calorie Connundrum

On May 31, 2010, in Uncategorized, by Andrea

Almost 6 years out and it still escapes me — how to lose weight.

The whole “calorie in, calorie out” does not work with someone who has a shot metabolism.  And let’s face it, this surgery kills our metabolism.  That and years of the yo-yo dieting we’ve done to get as fat as we had to be in order to resort to stapling our stomachs in the first place.

I’ve sat at 180-183.5 for the past several weeks despite running.  And it’s grating on my nerves.  This morning: 182.  Fat analysis: 32.6%  My GoWear Fit stats for the past several days:

BBGC Running Club?

On May 30, 2010, in Uncategorized, by Andrea

So the BBGC has been accused of being a group of haters.

Which I really find laughable, especially from the source of the accusation.  Because, if nothing else, I am not jealous of Stepford Bariatrics in any form or fashion — nor their intolerance towards things that are not within their narrow definition of “normal”.

With that said, I am going to do what we BBGCers do best — SUPPORT one another.

Questionable Protein Drinks?

On May 30, 2010, in Protein, by Andrea

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.

Well.  This is a fun way to wake up.

Consumer Reports did a study on 15 protein drinks and found questionable “additives” in some of them.  Included is the full text of the article, along with a few bullet points.

I find this a bit curious because I DO drink 3-4 protein drinks a day.  While I don’t drink the ones that tested high, it does scare me a bit.  WHY do I drink so much?  Well, to put things in perspective, I still have problems with food somewhat and do better with liquid protein.  We went out yesterday and I ate food mostly.  And my pouch was all “stuck feeling” for most of the day.  So it clearly was not happy with food.  Go figure.

Keep in mind, though, that these additives are tested in extremely high doses in rats and even doses in humans may not matter.

So while it does make me curious?  I’m not about to go out and toss all of my protein, either.  I’ll wait.  It’s too soon, with too little research at this point.

I’m a member — and it’s not because I eat crap all of the time, or lack of exercise.

In fact?  I forced Beth onto a treadmill at OH SoCal.  Some bad girl I am, eh?

What makes us BAD GIRLS (or boys) is the fact that we pave our own ways, don’t feel we must conform to a single leader or authority, and question everything, including those suspicious concepts such as carbonation making pouches explode, Flintstones being a good bariatric vitamins, and doctors having the ability to walk on water.

So do you dare to join us?

All the Whey – Whey Isolate Wild Berry

On May 29, 2010, in Protein, Reviews, by Andrea

Third up in my All the Whey samples?  Wild Berry.

So the kids are getting involved in the sampling process.  They both sniffed this one before I mixed it up.  The three of us different opinions on what it smells like.  Keep in mind that we’re talking about a 2 year old and an almost 4 year old.  The 4 year old says: “Strawberry!”  The 2-year old says “yummy!”  And I say “What smell?”
