My bedraggled bag..

Calcium Citrate that tastes like dessert — Wow! Our Calcium Citrate Chewy Bites deliver 250 mg of elemental calcium as calcium citrate in a delicious chew. They also contain 125 IU of vitamin D3 for healthy absorption. These chews are sugar-free as well, so you don’t have to worry about getting extra carbs while you get the calcium you need. Each chew is individually wrapped so you can take them with you wherever you go.

When I was down in Savannah a few weeks ago, I won a prize sponsored by Bariatric Advantage.  Part of that prize basket was a bag of their new Raspberry Calcium Bites.  In my excitement, several of us ripped open the bag and did a quick taste test right there at our table.

General consensus was very favorable.  I didn’t write it all down, because I just didn’t.  (Like I need an excuse to be lazy?)  Hindsight, yadda yadda.

These?  Taste wonderful.  They have a consistency of LaffyTaffy, and taste like they came from Willy Wonka as well.  No, I’m not exaggerating, either.  Seriously good.  And not in a bad way, either.  These were hard to keep from taking more than my dose at a time.  It was a “is it time for my calcium” sorta thing.  Some of the other calcium chews are a bit gritty towards the end — not these.  They are smooth all the way to the end, and I love how they did that.  Don’t even seem related at all.

Nutrient Amount %DV
Calcium (from Calcium Citrate) 250 mg 25%
Calories 15
Total Carbohydrate 3 g 1%*
Sugars 0 g
Sugar Alcohol 3 g
Vitamin K 0 mcg 0%
Vitamin D3 125 IU 31%
Magnesium (from Magnesium Oxide USP) 0 mg 0%
Sodium 10 mg 10%

Now, to get your 1500mg of calcium a day, that means 6 of these suckers.  It’s not really a hardship, IMHO, but they are not as cheap as pills (of course).  If you’re doing 2000mg, then you’re doing 10.

All-in-all, an excellent-tasting choice for calcium if you haven’t moved onto pills.

Available from Bariatric Advantage: Bag of 60 bites, $9.99 (17c each), 4 bags of 60 bites each, $29.97 (12.5c each)

Seriously, I went through my bag in I think 2 days.

  3. Andrea says:

Which is why Andrea does not do Calcets. Nor these, I suppose.

  4. Okay ^^^ is me up there (michelle b). It’s easier to log on as facebook though.
Haha. That’s the one thing I’m worried about- going through that bag like candy. I love sweet tart yummy goodness (and tangy/laffy taffies).
I ordered the Chocolate Calcet things you reviewed too.
I say since I am Calcium and Vit D deficient, then I’m allowed a little treat, eh?

I have yet to try the Raspberry, but I love the chocolate and lemon flavors. I think the only turnoff for me with these, is that they seem to be sort of “greasy” as you unwrap them. Frankly though, I’ll take greasy over a chalky horse-pill any day…

  6. Andrea says:

The Raspberry wasn’t “greasy” at all.

  7. rny_alison says:

I agree that the lemon ones are very greasy…a turn-off.
I always liked the chocolate ones, despite folks who report that they taste gritty.
The new raspberry ones are very good. Better than lemon (no grease factor) for sure.

I think they’ve been, erm, UPGRADED….? since the first batches…. they taste way more bettah.

  9. Andrea says:

Maybe they’ll upgrade the other flavors. Speaking of which, I need to do THOSE reviews… too many products not enough brain.
