She LOVES being my model..

It seems our days have become increasingly packed with events as we juggle family, work, and fitness leaving less time to focus on eating right throughout the day.

There are many nutritional products claiming to deliver amazing benefits but in reality fall short on balanced nutrition. With this in mind, we started mix1 with the following mission: to create the highest quality all-natural products that promote health, wellness and performance through truly functional nutrition.

mix1 products deliver all-natural balanced nutrition with multiple benefits in a convenient way. We use the right balance of ingredients, at efficacious levels, to provide the maximum benefit to your body.

Someone was talking about how great this stuff was, so I looked up the company.  I decided to drop them a line about their product and they sent me a few samples to try.  In no way did they pay me for the review (other than giving me some yummy stuff!) and they did not ask for anything in return.  Well, other than my honest opinion.  I suppose that counts?  And if you’ve been reading me for awhile — honesty is something that I come by fairly easily.

It’s hot out.  I know, NEWSFLASH OF THE CENTURY, duh, right?  But it’s hot out.  Which means it kicks off my NCS like nobody’s business when I go out to jog and it’s hot and I dehydrate.  So while I normally have a regular protein shake before my jog and one of these maybe after?  I decided to mix it up one evening while slowly putting off my run and have this before braving the heat.  No worries, I still took my 24oz of water with me, but at least I was armed beforehand with some electrolytes as well.

I’ve reviewed a few of the Mix1 protein smoothies before and while I don’t care much for the fiber drinks (unless you add some unflavored protein powder to them?  Then they are downright yummy..), these protein smoothies are quite good.

This one tastes JUST LIKE orange juice with just a bit of dry texture to it from the protein.  It smells like orange juice, it tastes like orange juice and if I didn’t know better, I’d say it WAS orange juice.  But of course, rather than have just a cup of dump-inducing acid, this has a ton of anti-oxidants and a post-op’s favorite seven-letter word: protein.

It’s even a good protein – whey isolate.  I mean? Can’t beat that with a stick.

It’s not an IDEAL protein drink for some due to the amount of sugar in it.  Let’s face it — if you are an easy dumper, especially on fruit sugar, then this may not be a product for you.  But for me?  Someone who has a stoma that hates fruits and veggies and cannot do those without a guaranteed stuck episode in her future?  This is a way to feel like I’m getting something healthy without guilt.  Or the 24-hours of hell that would follow the attempt of healthy-eating (and those of you who can eat raw veggies?  Be grateful.  Cause I’m not kidding when I say I can’t.  It really is not an excuse for me to just eat meat all of the time.  I miss broccoli!)

So looking at the label..

Nutritional facts.

As you can see, it also uses *gasp* real sugar to sweeten it.  So yes, I know, there will be some outrage from some of the peanut gallery.  Again, if you dump easily, this is not a product for you.

But for me?  And for others that are doing hard core exercise (cause man, I gotta tell ya.. jogging for 50 minutes is hard work, especially in 90 degree heat!  and it’s not even summer!), we NEED carbs for fuel.  And not all carbs are evil, despite what some may lead you to believe.  I eat and drink carbs in moderation.  And this?  With all the good stuff in it?  Is a good carb for me.

So how did I fare drinking this before my jog?  Well, I think I did better having a bit more fuel to work from than before.  Or it could have been a fluke.  I’ll have to play with it some more and see versus after-jog recovery.  In any case, it’s a nice product, and I like the flavor.

Mix1 is available in a number of places — online through Amazon, and I’ve even seen it at grocery stores like Kroger.  At Amazon, a 12-pack sells for $25.00, making them just over $2 each.  Really cheap for a RTD drink.

Wow – agree with you on that one. They are awesome and I love em. However – I have to drink them only RARELY – not an everyday drink – but – oh so good – and I love orange juice!!
