Calorie Connundrum

On May 31, 2010, in Uncategorized, by Andrea

Almost 6 years out and it still escapes me — how to lose weight.

The whole “calorie in, calorie out” does not work with someone who has a shot metabolism.  And let’s face it, this surgery kills our metabolism.  That and years of the yo-yo dieting we’ve done to get as fat as we had to be in order to resort to stapling our stomachs in the first place.

I’ve sat at 180-183.5 for the past several weeks despite running.  And it’s grating on my nerves.  This morning: 182.  Fat analysis: 32.6%  My GoWear Fit stats for the past several days:

Now, admittedly, I’m not one for journalling my food, but when I looked at my food for yesterday, it came up to 1,150 calories, and 85g protein (I honestly really didn’t count anything, that’s simply from memory).  That means I had a deficit of 1,430 calories yesterday.  I’d also like to note that I had some “bad” things on that list of food from yesterday — including a full-sized Butterfinger.  So it’s obvious I’m doing alright with my food.  Or, actually?  maybe should have had 2?

So while I hate to journal?  I’m going to for a week and see exactly where I am these days.

See?  Proof positive that we still don’t have all the answers at this far out.

Andrea, I’m struggling with the journaling of food intake. Who has freaking time?

I even downloaded the live-strong app for iPhone, and dang it, its cumbersome. I’m stuck, so I may have to do it, just for giggles..(shits too I guess).

Look at your sleep efficiency & hours you slept!

I know if I don’t get enough sleep the weight doesn’t budge.

Just a reminder, lovey…as you are running, you’re most likely building up leg muscles, which you know weigh more than fat. You’re probably negating a fat loss with a muscle gain :)

I sent you an article that question the calorie count… interesting.

Let me know what happens when you increase your calories.

When my nut first suggested I increase my calories, I quickly gained 5-10 lbs. Then I got worried and had my BMR measured in a lab and learned the awful truth.

    I am 5’9″ and I only get to eat 1000 cals/day or I gain.

So yes, my metabolism is shot.
