Advocacy

Follow the Leader. Please.

Advocacy (noun) – act of pleading for, supporting, or recommending
Definition thanks to Dictionary.com

I’ve been in this community a long time, and I’ve learned a few things.  Well, I’ve learned quite a bit — most of which I’d have to start charging a fee for the blog to post.  But one of the non-R-rated items would be the different attitudes that are pervasive in the WLS community.

So many people enter this community and feel we should all see things the same way just because our guts have been similarly rearranged.  We all had this stigma attached to us at one time and thus we should all be exactly the same when we are skinny, moderately slim, not-quite-as-fat-as-we-were-bef0re, or simply back to where we were but have been through the process.

This isn’t the case.  We are all different, and we all see things in a different way.  This is okay.

Optisource

On January 23, 2011, in Fat Solubles, Minerals, Reviews, Vitamins, Water Solubles, by Andrea

Shamelessly stolen from Nestle Nutrition

Perhaps the first, and definatly longest lasting bariatrc vitamin formulations out on the market today has got to be Optisource.  In fact, they have even hit the “big time” by being easily accessible in Walgreens.

Nestle says:

Get at least 100% of the daily value for 23 vitamins and minerals in just four tablets.

With the recommended daily dose of just four OPTISOURCE chewable tablets, patients recovering from malabsorbtive bariatric surgery will receive at least 100% of the daily value for 23 vitamins and minerals! These include high levels of calcium, vitamin B12, iron and folic acid for increased absorption. Chewable tablets that pack a huge nutritional punch.

Book #2.. Ideas, thoughts, feelings?

On January 19, 2011, in Uncategorized, by Andrea

I’ve been working on book #2.  It doesn’t have a title yet, so please don’t ask what it is.  Or really, when it will be done.  I’m putting a goal out there that I will be able to unveil it for the WLSFA event in Las Vegas — that is mid May.  So 4 months?  We’ll see.

For now, I do have a working outline.  Thought I would put it out for people to give thoughts and ideas on.  Keep in mind, this isn’t carved into stone, but I’d rather not add another 100,000 words or so to what’s already here.

Isopure Smoothie: Orange Berry

On January 17, 2011, in Protein, Reviews, by Andrea

They are so proud..

Mama is always on the computer “working” and the kids hardly understand why.  I know — they are four and almost three, so how could they, especially since I don’t “go” anywhere to work like their Papa does.  My work is done at home, or a few errands here and there (mailing books off to people, picking up copies at Staples, etc.) so I know this is confusing to them.

Last night, I decided to let the kids help with some taste testing.  And as part of that, I let them pick the menu of items to be tested.  I should feel grateful that there were only eight (that will be spread out over eight days.. gotta love scheduled posts..) and that they didn’t choose collagen.  Those are coming, though, as a dual post with Other Kaitlin over at The Bypassed Life.  In any case, these are my current selections.

First up: the Isopure Smoothie in Orange Berry.

Nature’s Best says:

Isopure Smoothie is made with 100% Pure Whey Protein Isolate. It comes in delicious yogurt like flavors and is lactose and aspartame free. Isopure Smoothie is a rich source of ALA Omega 3 (260mg)and contains more than 7400mg of BCAAs.

Reading Labwork

On January 16, 2011, in Tests, by Andrea

I’m not sure if I’ve ever actually posted a copy of my labwork and how to read it, nor how to determine what should be done in terms of supplements.

Let’s rectify that now.

Keep in mind that while my doc is good about ordering labs?  He’s still not perfect about ordering what I ask for.  This was one of my best requests, though.

These are some labs that were pulled on October 11th, 2010.  Included are the reference intervals for this particular labs, and marked as high/low if applicable.
