Isopure Smoothie: Orange Berry

They are so proud..

Mama is always on the computer “working” and the kids hardly understand why.  I know — they are four and almost three, so how could they, especially since I don’t “go” anywhere to work like their Papa does.  My work is done at home, or a few errands here and there (mailing books off to people, picking up copies at Staples, etc.) so I know this is confusing to them.

Last night, I decided to let the kids help with some taste testing.  And as part of that, I let them pick the menu of items to be tested.  I should feel grateful that there were only eight (that will be spread out over eight days.. gotta love scheduled posts..) and that they didn’t choose collagen.  Those are coming, though, as a dual post with Other Kaitlin over at The Bypassed Life.  In any case, these are my current selections.

First up: the Isopure Smoothie in Orange Berry.

Nature’s Best says:

Isopure Smoothie is made with 100% Pure Whey Protein Isolate. It comes in delicious yogurt like flavors and is lactose and aspartame free. Isopure Smoothie is a rich source of ALA Omega 3 (260mg)and contains more than 7400mg of BCAAs.

I reviewed the Orange Peach version of this almost a year ago, and I loved the taste of it then, but hated the texture.  I had been told the formulation had been changed and my local Vitamin Shoppe started to sell singles of these (and they were even on sale!) so I decided to pick up all three flavors to give them a shot again.

A protein "shot"

While it looks vaguely like a childhood medicine?  It does not smell that way or even taste that way.

The chalky texture that I was waiting for was completely gone.  It was very thin in comparison, and quite smooth.  It’s much more like a thicker milk, or what I would have expected from “Smoothie” in the first place.. but without much bulk.

It’s quite tasty.  And I wasn’t alone in my thoughts:

More.

Even now as I sit here with the bottle beside me writing up the review?  He begs for more.

Nutrition is just as good as when I reviewed it a year ago:

This is a 16oz drink to get 32g of protein and 14g of sugars (mostly from fruit concentrates).  For a baby pouch, it would need to be sipped on for a long time — but for my more mature pouch, it’s a good size for me and a good amount of high quality protein as well.

For those who are sick of chocolate and vanilla proteins, this is a good thing to try to break up the monotony.  Let’s face it — we don’t necessarily want the same thing day after day.

From Vitamin Shoppe, $3.79 for a single RTD

Hey, Andrea. I saw over at Beth’s that the new workbook is ready. I just wanted to let you know I will be ordering one in a couple of weeks. We are on a limited budget for now because Dail took a week off but as soon as possible, I will be ordering and thanking you greatly for putting it together.
    Many Hugs.
