Chocolate Shakeology

Perhaps the biggest thing in weight loss trends is Beachbody, which markets P90x and Shakeology.

Of late, several groups are starting to market to post-op WLSers.

The irony is that it is a “diet” – and didn’t many of us have WLS so we would never have to diet again? Or at least that was the thought. It was lost with my first child (thus regain) and the magick ended.

Regardless, this is the newest “craze” out there, and much like the Roca Labs “method,” there is a lack of real information out there about this product, so I decided to do a taste test and go over the product for those of us with designer guts.

Beachbody says:

The healthiest meal of the day.

Want a simple way to transform your health? All it takes is one glass of Shakeology® a day. This ultra-premium nutritional health shake contains the world’s most powerful superfoods. It’s the perfect combination of antioxidants, phytonutrients, enzymes, prebiotics, protein and many rare ingredients – including adaptogens, camu-camu, and sacha inchi – giving you the essential nutrients you can’t get from an ordinary diet.

Replace one meal a day with Chocolate or Greenberry Shakeology to increase your energy, reduce cravings, lose weight, improve digestion and regularity, and transform your health.* It tastes great, and it’s just 140 calories.

Vita4Life: Calcium

On May 20, 2011, in Minerals, Reviews, by Andrea

Vita4Life, as marketed by HELP

So a series of “bariatric” supplements are starting to hit the market again, this time marketed by HELP, or Healthy Everyday Life Products. They include supplements from Vita4Life, Protica collagen protein, and Shakeology amongst other things.

Vita4Life says:

The Best Calcium Supplement for Weight Loss Surgery Patients

Vita4Life! Calcium Malate Formula: Our calcium malate chelate formula is designed to meet the calcium supplementation needs of patients who have undergone all weight loss surgery procedures. We use only the highest quality ingredients in our calcium product. Calcium chelate has been proven to offer maximum absorption properties.

What is Calcium Malate Chelate?

Calcium malate chelate is calcium which has been combined with beneficial amino acids so that the calcium is more rapidly and efficiently absorbed by your body. Calcium malate chelate is not only absorbed more efficiently than other forms of calcium, including calcium citrate and calcium carbonate, but it is retained better in your body tissue such as bone and teeth.

Why did we switch from Calcium Citrate to a Chelated Calcium Malate?

Calcium malate chelate offers more superior absorption properties than calcium citrate. Additionally, chelation allows us to offer you your daily dosage in four capsules daily rather than six.

Integrity.. tarnished, but there.

There is a reason I don’t ever want to be a “professional” post-op.

I don’t want to have to sacrifice my integrity in order to further my career.

We BBG’s – we all have our character traits:

  • Beth is honest to a fault. In many cases, she is so honest, people hate her for it. They hate the fact that she knows so much, is willing to be so open about her own life, and feels others should be as well.
  • Kaitlin is the best support a girl could hope for. You have Kaitlin on your side and you gain a wealth of knowledge as deep and wide as the day is long. There is a reason she is my number one confidant, and my best friend.
  • Michelle is loyal to her friends and family, and will defend them with her last breath  even without being asked of it. She also believes everyone else should do the same and is betrayed by those who feel differently.
  • And me? I feel everyone should have the same level of integrity that I do.. which is fairly high admittedly. I hold myself accountable for a great deal and feel everyone elses’ moral compass should be the same direction as mine. I’ll defend my friends and family because it’s the right thing to do, but I’ll also tell them when I think they are wrong because I use my intellect.

Citracal Calcium Gummies

On May 6, 2011, in Minerals, Reviews, by Andrea

Dear Bayer HealthCare, LLC – makers of Citracal:

This isn’t cool.

Citracal used to represent a good, high quality product I could easily say “this will work in achlorhydriac (low acid) guts – go buy it and use it!”

Then you came out with some of your variations, such as the “Bone Builder” version which contained mostly carbonate and zinc – things that don’t go with the “Citracal” name nor with calcium.

Now? Now you’re dropping into the depths of the tricalcium phosphate market – a market of truly trashy calcium for WLS people. And you aren’t exactly inexpensive, either.
