Protein.. in a stick?

Gotein™ Protein to Go!
Perfect for individuals with a hectic schedule looking for a nutritious high protein shake to go. Whether you’re a WLS patient with a strict diet, an active executive or a sports minded person that needs to perform at their peak. Gotein™ helps refuel the body and improves lean muscle mass while burning fat with our premium protein matrix.*

After the brouhaha that happened last week with the Newbies vs. Oldies crap, I was contacted by the makers of Gotein.  They were reading on Beth’s blog about all of the drama that happened, found the link to my blog, and decided to ask if I’d like to review their product.  Being all up for freebies, I quickly said yes (do I look stupid?) and thus I was given some samples to try.  Not paid to review, of course (unless you count free protein?) and nothing but my honest (heh, as if I could be anything but..) opinion was asked for.  Got it?  Good.  Moving on..

It’s Wednesday.  I leave for SoCal tomorrow and I’ve got to figure out what I’m going to do for food / supplements for the plane ride across the country.  I really meant to do a review yesterday, but time got away from me.  As it’s doing again today.  Oh well.

So lunch will be a Gotein to review.

The culpri.. err. product.

I’m going to tell you something shocking.

Are you ready for it?

I was not born with an innate sense of vitamin knowledge.

I’ll wait for you to recover for a moment.

There was a time when I was a complete moron when it came to vitamins, and I just bought things willy-nilly.

You’ve heard about my foray (after being told to, of course, by my surgeon) with Tums, Flintstones, and Optisource.  And the consequences it wreaked with my bones and iron stores.

You’d think this would have been enough.  Well, sorta.  It taught me that I needed more vitamins, but it still didn’t quite kick it all the way home.

This is one of those instances.

So it’s Monday.  I leave on a jet plane for Cali on Thursday to go to the OH So Cal event.  I’m not counting down the days, hours, minutes or anything to Thursday, 7:22 PM or anything.  Nope.  Nada.  I’m not looking forward to this adult-time (get your minds OUT OF THE GUTTER!  Remember, I’m with an almost 4-yo and 2 yo 24/7.. it grates..) at all.  Nope.  Not at all.

The kicker to my trip is the flight from ATL to LAX – 5hrs with NO food.  Um?  Hi?  I have a smaller than normal stomach, hypoglycemia?  I get hungry often, I feed often?  And that bag o peanuts?  Ain’t gonna cut it.  So what’s a freak to do?  Well, one could try a mad science experiment, making a protein shake in the confines of a tiny airplane seat, scaring (or impressing?) your seatmates.  Or could nosh on bad food and have a hypoglycemic crash.  Or starve and eat when you get in at 2:30AM body time.

Here comes Gotein, a stick of protein powder, making it convenient to bring with you anywhere.  All you need is a bottle of water.  If you’ve ever had the sticks of Crystal Light?  You’ve got this made.  But just in case?  I’ve done a step-by-step.  Because, you know, snarkiness is next to something else.

She LOVES being my model..

philosophy:

It seems our days have become increasingly packed with events as we juggle family, work, and fitness leaving less time to focus on eating right throughout the day.

There are many nutritional products claiming to deliver amazing benefits but in reality fall short on balanced nutrition. With this in mind, we started mix1 with the following mission: to create the highest quality all-natural products that promote health, wellness and performance through truly functional nutrition.

mix1 products deliver all-natural balanced nutrition with multiple benefits in a convenient way. We use the right balance of ingredients, at efficacious levels, to provide the maximum benefit to your body.

Someone was talking about how great this stuff was, so I looked up the company.  I decided to drop them a line about their product and they sent me a few samples to try.  In no way did they pay me for the review (other than giving me some yummy stuff!) and they did not ask for anything in return.  Well, other than my honest opinion.  I suppose that counts?  And if you’ve been reading me for awhile — honesty is something that I come by fairly easily.

It’s hot out.  I know, NEWSFLASH OF THE CENTURY, duh, right?  But it’s hot out.  Which means it kicks off my NCS like nobody’s business when I go out to jog and it’s hot and I dehydrate.  So while I normally have a regular protein shake before my jog and one of these maybe after?  I decided to mix it up one evening while slowly putting off my run and have this before braving the heat.  No worries, I still took my 24oz of water with me, but at least I was armed beforehand with some electrolytes as well.

She's all excited! But because she was given a cookie with breakfast!

Sorry it’s so late –

We did draw at 12 noon as promised, but I’m just getting home from my support group meeting that’s held in Raleigh (an hour away).

Little girl child did her duty, after the group witnessed that the jar was well and thoroughly mixed..
