Chike – Strawberry Burst

On February 16, 2010, in General Nutrition, Protein, Reviews, by Andrea

(I had a wonderful review all typed out and was adding photos — and my computer, that is already limping along, died.  This re-enforces the fact that it will be reinstalled this week.  Because otherwise I’ll kill someone.)

Many many samples to go through...

I have a bag on the top of my fridge — it happens to be from Whole Foods, but it could be from anywhere — that has a ton of samples that I’ve purchased or have received over the past couple of months that I have said I would review and blog.  I just haven’t done it.  I’ve been in need of a carb detox so this is that week.

Chike Samples

Best Tasting Nutritional Shake. Guaranteed.

Whether you’re trying to lose weight, stay in shape, eat healthier or looking for a high quality protein supplement – Chike is the perfect answer.

Eating right is the key component to a healthy lifestyle. Let’s face it – with the fast pace of modern life, it’s not always easy to make the right choices when it comes to what you put in your mouth. Chike is the perfect solution for getting all of the nutrients of a healthy meal in a delicious, convenient protein shake.

Pour, Shake, Drink & Go!

It’s fast. It’s easy. It’s tasty. It’s healthy. No more
compromises. No more excuses. Invest a few minutes for a lifetime of benefits. Your future is waiting.

I’ve never had Chike before.  Sure, I’ve seen the ads on OH saying “Order your free samples Now!”  And FYI – not QUITE free, you still have to pay $6.95 for S&H.  But $7 for 5 shake samples isn’t bad at all.

In any case, as you can see, there are 5 flavors here to try.  Now, I’m all for flipping of coins (not that there are many 5-sided coins) but the toddler picked Strawberry for the first flavor.

Mixed

Now, I put this in a blender bottle with the full intention of needing to put the little ball in.  I mixed it without the ball at first to see how well it mixed truly expecting lumps.

There weren’t any.  None.  Nada.  Honest.  I was shocked — and then impressed all as hell.

First whiff gives me hope – a nice subtle strawberry smell.  Nothing overwhelming that I can smell across the room.  I hate drinks that overpower me.  Taste is the same.. very good strawberry taste without being too strong.  What I would imagine strawberry milk to taste like if I would, you know, actually drink strawberry milk.  It isn’t sticky sweet at all but has quite a wonderful flavor.

It’s thin — like milk is.  It mixes with 7oz of water — and only slightly thickens up.  This is not “shake-like” at all.  For a newbie pouch trying to get in protein and fluids, it’s ideal.  For a more mature pouch trying to replace a meal — maybe not so much in terms of satiation.  For a mature pouch trying to supplement protein, or hydrate during a workout — it’s a good option.

It does have more calories than some protein supplements — but given the vitamin profile, I don’t have a problem with it:
