I’ve gotten a number of requests to compare ViSalus vitamins to WLS needs, so the first up is their MultiMineral and Vitamin — the closest thing I can find to a “general all-purpose multivitamin” in their line.
I’d like to start out by saying that when I had questions about their actual content, I called the company. Was then told to email them when the representative floundered through my questions, not having a clue as to the actual makeup of the vitamin product the company was selling (always a great sign, yes?). So I dutifully emailed the company at the address provided, and was shot back with an auto-reply stating I would have a response within 48 hours.
Not so much.
Tried calling back today to see if I could get a smarter associate, or at least someone who could give me a better email to try, and they are closed. I give up. Therefore, I am going to simply make the guesswork based on the literature on the websites I have found and assume it to be accurate as I have no other concrete evidence to which to base my suppositions on.
Always a great start of a review, eh?
There are a great many ingredients listed that I won’t go over — these are “natural” ingredients such as herbs and such and as I have no knowledge about how they absorb, affect the WLS body, etc, I will not comment on them. This is the “hook” for most of the new MLM’s these days. These ingredients promise “antioxident” powers, “higher energy,” etc. Some of them have been found by the established medical community to contain neurotoxic qualities (chlorella, for example), which of course the “natural food industry” denies vehemently. Who’s right? I don’t know. And since I don’t have enough knowledge to evaluate these “natural” remedies sufficiently yet, I’m going to skip them for now.

First off, I must apologize for a lack of pictures in the following post. My laptop is in pieces on a desk across from me, and I’m waiting for a new one to be delivered. I am very sad about this unfortunate turn of events as my laptop was my close and dear friend.. but c’est la vie.
It seems for every fad diet there is out there, there is a MLM, or multi-level-marketing company willing to cater to it. I’ve been asked a number of times about several of these, so I’ve decided to tackle a few of the companies in a series of posts. While I won’t be covering ALL of the products put out by a company, I will try to cover those most likely pitched to WLS patients.
Perhaps the first, and definatly longest lasting bariatrc vitamin formulations out on the market today has got to be Optisource. In fact, they have even hit the “big time” by being easily accessible in Walgreens.
Get at least 100% of the daily value for 23 vitamins and minerals in just four tablets.
With the recommended daily dose of just four OPTISOURCE chewable tablets, patients recovering from malabsorbtive bariatric surgery will receive at least 100% of the daily value for 23 vitamins and minerals! These include high levels of calcium, vitamin B12, iron and folic acid for increased absorption. Chewable tablets that pack a huge nutritional punch.
For all the vitamins that are out on the market, the newest “craze” are the gummy “vitamins.”
First came the gummies for kids to help get kids to take them. I get the reasoning.
But then they made adult vitamins using a gummy formulation.
And post-ops who thought Flintstones were good enough? Now thought gummies were a great option.
And just like Flintstones.. they aren’t.
So back in October (yes, I realize it’s almost January..) Vic from Celebrate sent me a care package of some of Celebrate’s newer products. It included a bottle of their Pineapple-Strawberry multivitamins, Cherry Tart calcium, Cherry B12 sublinguals, and their full line of ENS liquid multivitamin/calcium mixes.
I was in bariatric heaven.
Since I got a full month of the multivitamin, calcium, and B12, and because I’m not normally one for chewable vitamins? I decided to actually TAKE the vitamins for a full month before doing the reviews on the products to see when I got tired of them, IF I got tired of them. This is coming from someone who thinks Flintstones take like crap, could not stand Optisource, etc.
First up? The Pineapple-Strawberry multivitamin.
