Box o Goodies

At the Houston OH event, Shannon from Revival Soy asked if I’d like to do some reviews for them.

I said sure if she’d send me some samples.

She fixed that problem very quickly with a box of goodies..

I usually try to get my reviews done in order of arrival.. but since I’ve been so bad at getting my reviews done at all, I’m having to mix them all up a bit to change the pace so I don’t get bored, and so YOU don’t get bored, either.

First up – Crazy Lace Non-Naughty Nibbles in Smaller Chin Cheddar (say that ten times fast..)

Multivitamin, Calcium, and Protein -- all in one!

As part of the samples box Vic over at Celebrate sent me, there were some of the new ENS shakes that include protein as well.  I’ve not tried them yet, so I’m looking forward to putting them in my blender bottle and giving them a whirl.

First up is the Vanilla Cake Batter.

Celebrate says:

Created for surgical weight loss patients, our ENS (Essential Nutrient System) shake contains a high potency multivitamin, 500 mg of calcium citrate, and 25 g of whey isolate protein in each pack. Our integrated formula provides maximum solubility and ensures that the vitamins and minerals are readily bioavailable. This product is the best option for patients immediately following surgery.

* The vitamin and mineral content of each pack is equal to taking one chewable multivitamin, plus 500 mg of calcium, plus 25 g of protein.
* Due to the nature of the formulation, this product is appropriate for any surgical weight loss procedure. As with any of our other delivery systems, you may need additional supplementation based on surgery type.
* It is recommended to be blended with 8 oz of cold water, shaken, and consumed but can be mixed with as much or as little water as you want. It may also be mixed with milk.
* Each pack also contains 4 g of soluble fiber, added electrolytes and a 500 mg antioxidant blend, and a 200 mg green tea blend.
* Like our other products, taste is important and this has a delicious vanilla flavor that will make you think that you are drinking a glass of milk flavored like cake batter.
* Since quality is a critical element of all of our products, we utilize an ultra refined whey isolate protein that scores 100 on the PDCAAS scale.

Who would benefit from this product?

1. Early post-operative patients – Since this may be diluted to taste, there are virtually no issues with taste aversion.
2. Athletes – If you are a surgery patient turned athlete, this can help to flavor that boring water that you need to drink. Water is critical and taking your vitamins and calcium while hydrating makes it easier.
3. Anyone looking for a convenient alternative to pills or chewables.

Unjury – Unflavored

On September 17, 2010, in Protein, Reviews, by Andrea

I’ve sat on this review for about ten months now.  I don’t normally run from a fight, but this one I did.

See, Unjury sent me samples back in December and I offered to try them.  However, shortly after, the attitude of the Unjury owners changed towards me and I honestly did not feel as though I could give an honest review of the product.  So I didn’t in fear that a bad review would draw even more criticism from the owners of Unjury.  (How this would be possible, I’m not even sure.)

Suddenly, I find, that I just don’t give a damn.  So away we go.

The package.

UNJURY® is a great-tasting protein supplement that provides the highest quality protein. One serving of Unjury provides 20 grams of protein – as much as 3 eggs – without the fat and cholesterol.

UNJURY® Protein Provides:
* Highest quality protein from Whey Protein Isolate.
* High protein content, low carbs and low fat.
* Truly great clean taste.

Medical Quality Protein Developed by a Clinical Dietitian
An experienced Clinical Dietitian, MS RD — in search of a light, clean, good tasting, high-protein supplement — found no product out there with high-quality protein. This inspired the development of UNJURY®. Unlike other protein powder supplements, UNJURY® is better because it is almost entirely protein — and has a great taste! Try UNJURY!

Xapp – Pomegranate Acai

On June 10, 2010, in Protein, Reviews, by Andrea

Carbonated! Protein!

Old school protein drinks were like swallowing stale lemon juice.  To get them down you had to drink them fast. Or hold your nose. The FIZZ in XAPP keeps the flavor bouncing on your tongue, so bad taste gets banished. Using the breakthrough XAPP FIZZOLOGY technology, the protein in XAPP is kept fresher longer- up to 2 years- for a better-tasting, longer lasting way to refuel.
Milky protein drinks can have up to 16g of fat. That’s 144 fat calories! Not very healthy or refreshing. Worse, fat slows down digestion and protein delivery to muscles. XAPP is naturally fat free with 170 calories of protein refreshment express delivered to hard-working muscles. XAPP has all of what you need, and none of what you don’t.
Floaties in not-so-pure whey protein drinks are caused by de-naturating [fracturing/partially destroying] the all important natural protein structure. This is usually caused by using excessive heat during processing. XAPP uses only liquid whey protein isolate. It is never over-heated or exposed to extreme temperatures. So you’ll never see floaties or have to gulp down chunks of slimy protein again. Guaranteed!  — Xapp Website

I have to tell you — when I learned about a carbonated protein drink?  The Bad Girl inside of me jumped for joy and could not WAIT to try it.

I tried to get a corporate sample — and it looked like I would.  But something happened and it was not meant to be.  So I was left for wanting.

Until!!! I stopped off at the Greenville, NC Vitamin Shoppe in search of my Mix1 drinks that I drink before I go running.  I was totally impressed with the single serve drink selection that the Vitamin Shoppe had and lo, and behold?  2 Xapp flavors just begging to be tried.  So yeah, you know what happened, don’t you?

Mix1 – mango

On May 28, 2010, in General Nutrition, Protein, Reviews, Vitamins, by Andrea

(Don't mind the kids' toys in the background... Proof I'm a mom!)

philosophy:

It seems our days have become increasingly packed with events as we juggle family, work, and fitness leaving less time to focus on eating right throughout the day.

There are many nutritional products claiming to deliver amazing benefits but in reality fall short on balanced nutrition. With this in mind, we started mix1 with the following mission: to create the highest quality all-natural products that promote health, wellness and performance through truly functional nutrition.

mix1 products deliver all-natural balanced nutrition with multiple benefits in a convenient way. We use the right balance of ingredients, at efficacious levels, to provide the maximum benefit to your body.

Dr. James, ND, co-founder

Someone was talking about how great this stuff was, so I looked up the company.  I decided to drop them a line about their product and they sent me a few samples to try.  In no way did they pay me for the review (other than giving me some yummy stuff!) and they did not ask for anything in return.  Well, other than my honest opinion.  I suppose that counts?  And if you’ve been reading me for awhile — honesty is something that I come by fairly easily.

So I have to say, I really like the Mix1 RTD’s I’ve tried so far.  Well, at least the “protein” ones.  The fiber ones, without additional protein powder in them at least?  Not so much.  But I really have liked the others so far, and have incorporated them into my jogging routine.
