Click – Vanilla Latte

Vanilla Latte Click

So I have Vanilla Latte Click, finally.  After some drama concerning the USPS, some miscommunication, and a strange email?  I have it.  And of course?  Yes, a review.  I’m so easy.

For any of my #fitbloggin friends that might be reading this — this is not the same Click you got in your Swag bags.  This is a new flavor that will be released on Amazon on March 24th.  The flavor YOU got was Mocha — a flavor that’s been out for quite some time and that I reviewed here.  It’s good – try it if you are as addicted to caffeine as I am.

In any case, this is my morning caffeine fix, so here we go.

Inspire – Peanut Butter Cookie

Peanut Butter Cookie

Bariatric Eating says:

Peanut Butter Cookie has freshly baked toasted peanut goodness.

  • Mixes instantly and completely with a spoon
  • Zero sugar & zero fat
  • Created to blend with just four ounces of water

We know what qualities it takes to make the perfect protein, and we’re proud to bring you Inspire Pure Whey Isolate Protein Drink. Inspire is a thin, smooth, small-volume protein drink offering excellent taste & convenience. We use 100% pure whey isolate as it offers a clean unflavored background for luscious real peanut butter & premium flavorings. Our bestselling protein is flavored with fat free peanut butter powder!

So this is my last sample from BE.  I love PB — As in I’ll eat it with a spoon if I can.  PB and I can get in trouble if I allow myself to.  Pop it into the shaker and let’s see.

So mixed up, there’s not very much foam on the top, which is very nice.  On first glance, it looks smooth, but when tasting I do find a few clumps of peanut butter.  It’s not bad at all, just that they are there.  And at the bottom of the cup there is some peanut butter powder left over — but again, not a huge deal.  This is pretty well tasting, but still a bit watery in my opinion.  If I were to have this as a common shake, I’d probably use just a bit less water so it wouldn’t be quite as diluted.  But taste-wise, it does have a peanut butter taste.  I notice a bit more of a residue on my teeth with this protein more than I have with the others — and maybe that’s the peanut butter — I don’t know.  I just know that it’s there.

Nutritional Stats

It’s not a bad protein — and I think it’s probably one of the better tasting PB proteins out there.  So if you’re looking for a PB flavored protein and don’t want to make one yourself using PB2, then this is an option.

Inspire – Pom Razz Sangria

Pom Razz ... Sangria?

Bariatric Eating says:

Pom Razz Sangria is a fruity sensation with pomegranate, raspberry, and tart cranberry.

We use 100% pure whey isolate as it offers a clean unflavored background for luscious fruit & premium flavorings.

So there’s a reason Andrea doesn’t do reviews when she has a headache.  Or when she’s taken medication.  REALLY good reasons.  I mixed this BRIGHT RED drink up, and was in a video chat and someone asked if this was a blender ball cup I was using.  And like a moron, I thought it would be a good idea to show the cup with the blender ball and the stuff inside to the webcam — pouring out part of the BRIGHT RED protein on my laptop keyboard.  And this is just after the vlog in which Beth calls me smart.  Not so much.  So now I have a few keys that are a bit sticky and one key that needs a bit of super glue — but for the most part all is well in the world again.

Bright red and .. foamy.

So I mix it up and it is BRIGHT FREAKING RED.  I mean it’s still red in parts of my keyboard red.  It’s bright red.  The thing I noticed right away was that it foamed up very heavily from the beginning.  I don’t see any heavy lumps, so I’m fairly certain that it’s mixed well — just heavily foamed.

Not kidding -- REALLY foamy.

So I take a sip through the foam and it’s good — it’s initially one of those tastes that I recognize but can’t place?  And I SOOO hate that.  But eventually I place it as close to watermelon Bubblicious gum.  Which is really pretty good.  But I think, even using the ice cold water out of my tap that it’s too warm so I chuck it in my freezer for about 10 minutes.

Still foamy

10 minutes later the foam has frozen, but it’s still VERY foamy (which I don’t really like) but the shake is tastier colder.  MUCH better cold.  This would be something I would like mixed with ice — and I don’t typically do the ice drink thing.

Of all the Inspire flavors so far, this is my absolute favorite, and would be the one I would buy again.  I like the flavor, and despite the very heavy foam (which yes is annoying — but I can deal), it doesn’t have a heavy protein taste at all.  I would totally suggest this for people who are having trouble with the milkier substances.

Nutritional Stats

All-in-all, this is a pretty decent protein from BE.  It’s a bit foamy, and a bit pricey — but those are the only real cons I see with this protein.  It’s got a good taste to it.

This is a first for me.  I’ve never done a review in which I did not have the words to adequately describe how I feel about a product.  Nor have I had to do a negative review before.

Generally speaking, even if I don’t like the taste of something, there is something redeeming about the product.  I may not like the flavor, but if it’s a small enough volume and a good amount of amino acids I can make it work.  Even the bullets — which I don’t like — are good for nitrogen if you eat a high amount of meat protein.

That’s the short version of the review.  If you want the long version — keep reading.

This sample came in, along with a chocolate.  They instruct to mix with 8oz of cold liquid.  I mix with water to get a good idea of the flavor without milk.

Very foamy..

5 minutes later..

This did mix very well, although as you can see it’s very foamy.  Right after mixing it, I had to run after the kids, go fold some towels out of the dryer, etc.  This meant that I left it alone for 5 minutes without moving it and  quite a bit of the foam had dissipated — so that’s a good thing.

The taste — is very, very, very thin.  It’s dry, protein-y without ANY good flavor at all to mask the protein.  Which is odd because when I first opened the packet, it was almost overpoweringly sweet and vanilla-y.  I really expected to there to be more flavor to this shake — but there wasn’t anything but the protein taste.  It was *awful*.  I took a few sips to make sure it wasn’t just the first taste and no, it was just horrible.

So to make this drinkable — because I did spend the money on the shake, I pull out the strongest flavored powder that I really think will work with this:

Mmm.. Banana Cream Pudding…

Adding a scoop makes it 40g of protein — and it gets it down much, much easier.  It’s even nice and thick so I think it will help stay in my pouch awhile — which hey! Shiny win.

I was looking at the website to get stats and information for you guys and I noticed some things — the information on the back of my sample packet was nothing like what was on the website.  So I called the company — and they explained that the printer screwed up the packets.  And so if you get these packets, you should be aware that this is not accurate information:

Uh-oh — someone made a boo-boo..

I will say this about the company — they produce the amino acid profile.  This is great for those who know that want to check the scores and see how good a protein is.

Nutritional Stats

I have to say that despite the quality protein, that I would NOT recommend the vanilla to anyone.  The taste is awful — and despite the quality, the flavor is just not there.  There are other companies that give the same quality without the all the additives, but deliver on the promise of taste.

However, you can buy samples to try out if you are interested.  I’d suggest doing that.

Available at EnergyFirst — 2lb tub (about 36 servings) for $39.99;  Sample pack $1.49
